Old Town Ston

Old Town Ston

A planned medieval town built by the Republic of Ragusa in the 14th century alongside saltworks and defensive walls, featuring a regular layout of streets, squares, churches, and the fortress Veliki Kaštio. Stone houses and narrow alleyways preserve the atmosphere of a settlement created with a clear purpose — to guard the salt and the border of the Republic. Today, the tranquil historic core is also renowned for its outstanding restaurants serving oysters.
