Ston Walls

Ston Walls

The Ston Walls represent one of the largest and best-preserved fortification systems in Europe. They were originally about seven kilometers long, and the Republic of Ragusa began their construction in the 14th century to protect Ston, Mali Ston, and the valuable salt pans that were one of the most important sources of income for the Republic. A walk along the walls leads over stone ramparts and towers with spectacular views of the bay, the white salt pan basins, and the rooftops of the medieval town.
