Tinguely Fountain

Tinguely Fountain

The Tinguely Fountain, also known as the Fasnachtsbrunnen, stands on Theaterplatz, on the site once occupied by the stage of the old municipal theatre building, which was demolished in 1975. Swiss artist Jean Tinguely created its kinetic machine sculptures in 1977, and the fountain was gifted to the city by the Migros cooperative to mark its 50th anniversary. Iron figures stand in a shallow basin, moving continuously and spraying water. They are arranged like actors or dancers on a stage, endlessly performing the same show — yet no two performances are ever quite alike.
