Tiryns — Mycenaean City (UNESCO)

Tiryns — Mycenaean City (UNESCO)

Tiryns is one of the most significant archaeological sites of the Mycenaean civilization, situated on a low hill not far from Nafplio. The site was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999, together with Mycenae. The most impressive feature is the Cyclopean walls, built from enormous stone blocks that ancient Greeks believed were constructed by the Cyclopes, as no human hand could have moved them. Within the fortification lie the remains of a palace, baths, and underground galleries. Due to its short distance from Nafplio and Mycenae, it fits easily into a day trip covering this part of the Argolid.
