Tunnel of Hope

The Tunnel of Hope was the only connection between besieged Sarajevo and the territory outside the siege during the war in the 1990s. Built in 1993 beneath the runway of Sarajevo Airport, it enabled the transport of people, food, medicine, and equipment. Today, a section of the tunnel is preserved as a museum that depicts one of the most difficult periods in the city's history through authentic exhibits and testimonies.
