Gjirokastra Fortress

Gjirokastra Fortress

One of the largest Ottoman fortresses in the Balkans, dating back to the 12th century, with its current form taking shape in the 17th and 19th centuries. Within the walls is the Arms Museum, housing collections from World War II, as well as an American F-86 Sabre military aircraft that made a forced landing in 1957. From the fortress terraces, there is a view over the entire city and the Drinos river valley.
