Fortress of Saint John

An imposing fortress standing at approximately 260 meters above sea level above Kotor, part of the city's defensive system that was expanded and enlarged over the centuries, particularly during the period of Venetian rule. The ascent of roughly 1,350 steps is rewarded with a spectacular view of the Bay of Kotor, the old town, and the surrounding mountains. Along the path stands the 16th-century Church of Our Lady of Health, one of the most recognizable landmarks on the way to the top.
