Villa Adriana

The former residence of Emperor Hadrian, built between 118 and 138 AD, spans approximately 120 hectares, of which around 40 are open to visitors. Among the most famous parts of the complex are the Canopus, a long pool surrounded by sculptures, and the Teatro Marittimo, a circular villa situated on a small island. Set aside at least a few hours for the visit, and arriving in the morning means more pleasant temperatures and smaller crowds.
