Cardinal Ippolito d'Este, son of Lucrezia Borgia, converted a Benedictine monastery in the late 16th century into a terraced garden that operates exclusively on water pressure. The Avenue of a Hundred Fountains is 130 meters long, and the Organ Fountain — a Bernini design — uses water pressure to play hidden pipes. Franz Liszt lived here on several occasions between 1865 and 1886 and composed pieces inspired by these fountains.
Ticket includes entrance to the villa and the famous fountains. Online booking in advance is recommended, especially on weekends and during the season.
