A mountain and national park located right next to Sofia, with its highest peak Cherni Vrah at 2,290 meters above sea level. In summer it is popular for hiking trails of varying difficulty, while in winter it serves as one of the main skiing areas around the city. From the higher parts of the mountain, panoramic views of Sofia and the surrounding mountain ranges unfold.
The gondola to Aleko costs around 12 EUR for a return ticket. Entrance to the national park is free. A visit in the morning hours during weekends is recommended to avoid crowds.
