Byzantine Museum of Antivouniotissa

Byzantine Museum of Antivouniotissa

The Byzantine Museum of Antivouniotissa is housed in the 15th-century Church of Antivouniotissa, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, in the heart of the old town of Corfu. The collection comprises around 90 Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons dating from the 15th to the 19th century, gathered from Corfiot churches that are no longer in use. The museum is one of the most significant collections of Byzantine religious art in Greece outside of Athens. In addition to the icon collection, the church itself draws attention with its well-preserved wooden ceiling and interior from the Venetian period.
