One of the most significant squares in Budapest, erected in 1896 to commemorate the millennium of the Magyar settlement of the Carpathian Basin. At its center stands the 36-metre Millennium Column topped by the Archangel Gabriel, surrounded by a colonnade with statues of Hungarian rulers. It has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Entry to the square is free and accessible 24 hours. On either side of the square are the Museum of Fine Arts and the Palace of Arts, which have separate tickets. The square is the starting point for City Park.
