UNESCO-protected historic core of Salzburg, one of the best-preserved Baroque city centers in all of Europe. Narrow streets such as Getreidegasse, Mozartplatz, and Residenzplatz are filled with historic buildings, fountains, and attractions. The Old Town encompasses Residenzplatz, the Cathedral Terrace, and numerous Baroque palaces.
Walking through the old town is completely free. Some attractions within the core, such as the Residenz (archbishop's palace) and its galleries, charge an entrance fee of around 13 EUR. A visit before 9 AM or after 6 PM is recommended to avoid crowds.
