A mighty medieval fortress of Tsar Samuil, built at the end of the 10th century on top of the Ohrid hill, which served as the capital of the First Bulgarian Empire. The walls and towers are excellently preserved, and from the ramparts there is a spectacular view of Lake Ohrid and the city. It is one of the most visited attractions in North Macedonia.
Tickets are purchased at the entrance. The fortress is open throughout the year, but in summer it stays open until late in the evening, allowing visits at sunset. Wear comfortable shoes due to uneven terrain.
