The most famous Roman amphitheater and one of the greatest symbols of ancient civilization. Built in the 1st century, it could hold more than 80,000 spectators and was the center of gladiatorial combat and public spectacles. It is best visited early in the morning or close to closing time to avoid the largest crowds. For a complete experience, a combined visit to the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Palatine is recommended, for which at least 3 hours are needed.
Book tickets in advance โ time slots often sell out several days ahead, especially during spring and summer.
