An award-winning museum considered one of the most modern Byzantine museums in the world, recipient of the prestigious European Museum of the Year award in 2005. It presents a thousand years of Byzantine civilization through exceptionally presented collections of frescoes, mosaics, textiles and everyday objects. The building itself is an architectural masterpiece by modern Greek architect Kyriakos Krokos.
A combined ticket with the Archaeological Museum costs around 12 EUR and offers good value. Free entry on the first Sunday of the month during the winter period. The museum has an excellent audio guide in English.
