A double-deck metal arch bridge from 1886 that spans the Douro River and connects Porto with Vila Nova de Gaia. It was designed by Théophile Seyrig, a pupil of Gustave Eiffel. The upper pedestrian level offers a spectacular panoramic view of both cities and the river.
Crossing the bridge is completely free and open during the day. The upper level is also used by metro line D. Particularly impressive at dusk and at night when it is illuminated.
