Narrow stone streets lead to the main square and the Church of St. Mary, and on clear days the panoramic view of the Istrian interior stretches all the way to the Alps. The town is known as 'the city of truffles' — one of the centers of Istrian truffle hunting.
The museum, housed in the Bigatto palace within the old town, preserves archaeological finds, ethnographic materials, and documentation on the tradition of truffle hunting in the Istrian hinterland. The collection spans objects from prehistory to the 20th century and offers insight into everyday life in the interior of Istria. A special section is dedicated to Istrian truffle hunters and their dogs.
A panoramic terrace near the Fontana spring at the foot of the old town offers views of the Mirna valley, the surrounding vineyards, and the forests where black truffles grow. Local residents use this spot for evening walks, and at sunset the sky above the Istrian hills takes on intense orange tones. Access is straightforward and free of charge.
Buzet is the center of Istrian truffle hunting, and the surrounding forests along the Mirna River are among the richest sites for black and white truffles in Europe.
