Everything you need for Grindelwald in one place
The Reformed Church in the centre of Grindelwald was built in 1793. A wooden church stood on the same site in the mid-12th century, which was replaced around 1180 by a stone church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Due to ground subsidence in the early 16th century, a new church was erected, and that in turn was replaced by the present building. The Grindelwald Museum stands next to the church.
The Grindelwald Museum is housed in the Talhaus, a former school building dating from 1886, located next to the church. It traces the development of Grindelwald from a mountain farming settlement into a tourist destination, covering topics such as agriculture and alpine cattle farming, mountaineering, winter sports, railways, traditional crafts, and alpine painting. A dedicated sound room is devoted to the myth of the Eiger. The museum operates seasonally, so opening hours should be checked before visiting.
The Glacier Gorge (Gletscherschlucht) was formed beneath the Lower Grindelwald Glacier, where water carved a canyon into the rock with cliffs reaching up to 300 metres high. Paths, tunnels, and rock galleries lead through the gorge, and stretched across it is a network of steel cables known as the 'spider web', which visitors can walk along. From the town centre, the entrance can be reached on foot in about 35 minutes or by bus, and there is a car park at the entrance. The gorge is open only during the warmer half of the year, from May through autumn, and is closed in winter.
The Eiger Trail runs from Eigergletscher station, reached via the Eiger Express, down to Alpiglen at the very foot of the Eiger's north face.

Bernese Alpine Cheese is a hard raw-milk cheese made only in summer, on mountain pastures, primarily in the Bernese Oberland. The milk is curdled in a copper cauldron over a wood fire, and the cheese is aged for at least six months before sale. Selected wheels go on to become Bernese Shaving Cheese (Berner Hobelkäse AOP), which is then aged for at least a further year in a cool, dry room and sliced into thin shavings. Both cheeses carry the protected designation of origin AOP.
