Himara is the largest coastal town between Vlora and Saranda on the Albanian Riviera, situated in a bay facing the Greek island of Corfu. The old part of town is scattered across a hill above the shore — stone passages and medieval fortress ruins. The new part stretches along the sea with a promenade, hotels and restaurants. It is an ideal starting point for exploring the southern Albanian Riviera — from the Porto Palermo fortress and Qeparo beach to monasteries with medieval frescoes. The beaches are mostly pebbly with crystal-clear water, and boat tours offer visits to sea caves and Communist-era submarine bunkers.
