Igoumenitsa is a port city in northwestern Greece and one of the main maritime hubs of Epirus. The port connects mainland Greece with Corfu and other Ionian destinations, as well as with the Italian coast. The city itself has developed along the bay, with a long promenade, cafes and tavernas by the sea, while the surrounding area features archaeological sites and several quieter beaches. Due to its location, it serves as a practical base for exploring the coast of Thesprotia, Syvota and Corfu.

The museum preserves finds from excavations in the Epirus region, including artifacts from the Bronze Age, Hellenistic, and Roman periods. The exhibition covers sites such as ancient Gitana and depicts the everyday life of the ancient inhabitants of this part of Greece.
The city promenade along the Ionian Sea offers views of the maritime traffic between Greece and Italy, as well as the nearby islands of Corfu and Sivota. The waterfront walk along the port is the center of the city's everyday life — from morning coffee to evening strolls of the local population.
An Ottoman fortress that dominates the hill above the city, offering a panoramic view of the harbor, the Ionian Sea, and the outlines of Corfu. The remains of the fortifications date back to the 17th century, and a short walk uphill through a pine forest leads to the ruins and a plateau with excellent views.
