The historic core of Labin is made up of stone streets, squares, palaces and buildings that preserve traces of centuries of Venetian rule. Among the most recognizable details are the city gate of St. Flora from 1589, a 16th-century loggia and a Venetian lion above the entrance to the city. The old core also houses the National Museum, city galleries and artists' studios, so it is best explored on foot.
A museum housed in the 18th-century Baroque Battiala-Lazzarini palace in the heart of the old town. The permanent collection includes a mining exhibit dedicated to the history of the Labin coal mine, as well as archaeological finds from prehistory and antiquity. Particularly noteworthy is a replica of a mine shaft that visitors can walk through.
Fortica is located at the highest point of old Labin and is one of the best spots for a panoramic view in the area. From the viewpoint, you can see towards Rabac and the Kvarner landscape, including the island of Cres. Fortica is reached by a short walk through the old town center, making it a natural finale to a tour of historic Labin.
