A 15th-century Franciscan monastery houses one of the most renowned malacological museums in Europe, with a collection of several thousand shells, snails, and other marine mollusks from around the world. In addition to the museum, the complex includes a peaceful monastery garden and church, making it one of the most interesting cultural sites in Makarska.
The main city square of Makarska is surrounded by historic buildings, among which the Baroque Church of Saint Mark and the monument to Fra Andrija Kačić Miošić, one of the most important Croatian writers of the 18th century, stand out. The square is a favorite gathering place for locals, surrounded by cafes and restaurants, and serves as a natural starting point for exploring the old part of the city.
Saint Peter Peninsula is one of the most beautiful spots for a panoramic view of Makarska, the Riviera, and the islands of Brač and Hvar. A gentle hiking trail through a pine forest leads to the top in about 20 minutes, where a small 15th-century Church of Saint Peter and several viewpoints facing the open sea can be found. It is especially popular at sunset, when the peninsula offers one of the most stunning views of the Makarska Riviera.
