Novi Sad is the administrative and cultural center of Vojvodina, situated on the banks of the Danube in the flatland region of northern Serbia. The city center is defined by Trg slobode, pedestrian streets, and buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries, while on the opposite bank of the river, atop the Petrovaradin rock, stands Petrovaradin Fortress. Museums, galleries, churches, and Dunavski park round out a visit to the center, and the Štrand beach on the Danube offers space for swimming and recreation. In the surroundings of the city lie the Čenej farmsteads, Sremski Karlovci, and the monasteries of Fruška Gora, which complement a stay with excursions beyond the city center. Novi Sad is also known for its cultural events and festivals.

Petrovaradin Fortress stands on a rock above the Danube, opposite the central part of Novi Sad. The current complex was largely shaped during the 18th century as part of the Habsburg fortification system. Among its recognizable features are a clock tower with a reversed arrangement of hands and a network of underground military tunnels. From the plateau and ramparts, there are views over the Danube and the city center of Novi Sad.
Freedom Square is the main city square of Novi Sad, surrounded by representative buildings from the late 19th century. Notable landmarks include the Neo-Renaissance City Hall and the tall Church of the Name of Mary, while at its center stands a monument to Svetozar Miletić. The square is the heart of city life, a gathering place for events and celebrations, and the starting point for walks through the old town core.
The Church of the Name of Mary is a Roman Catholic parish church on Liberty Square, built in the late 19th century in the Neo-Gothic style. It is recognizable by its slender tower standing over 70 meters tall and its roof covered with colorful glazed tiles, while the interior is adorned with stained glass windows and altars. It is one of the most striking symbols of the Novi Sad skyline.
Bač is a historic settlement in the western part of Bačka, with a heritage spanning various periods of Central European and Ottoman history.
