A medieval fortress built on a steep rock above Omiš, reached by a short but demanding hiking trail through the old town center. From its walls, visitors can enjoy views of the Cetina river mouth, the rooftops of the old town, and the Adriatic Sea. During the Middle Ages, it served as a key watchtower for the Omiš pirates, who used it to control access to the town and the maritime routes.
An impressive medieval fortress situated approximately 330 meters above Omiš, reached by a hiking trail through the slopes of the Cetina canyon. The ascent takes about an hour, and the reward is one of the most beautiful panoramic views in Dalmatia, encompassing the old town, the mouth of the Cetina river, the Adriatic Sea, and the surrounding islands. During the era of the Omiš pirates, Fortica served as the main strategic stronghold for the defense of the city.
The impressive canyon of the Cetina River begins just above Omiš and is one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in Dalmatia. Hiking trails follow the course of the river through steep cliffs, past old mills and green riverbanks, all the way to Radmanove mlinice. The combination of a mountain canyon, river, and sea within a small area makes this region unique and one of the defining landmarks of Omiš.
