Parga is a coastal town in Epirus, in northwestern Greece, nestled between the hills and the Ionian Sea. It is recognizable for its old town that descends toward the harbor, the Venetian fortress above the center, and its proximity to beaches such as Valtos, Krioneri, and Lichnos. Everything you need for Parga in one place
The Venetian-era fortress dominates the hill above the town harbor and offers a panoramic view of the bay, the island of Panagia, and the surrounding hills. It was built in the 14th century and was repeatedly restored by the Venetians over the following centuries. Within the walls, a church and parts of the original fortifications are preserved. A steep climb up stairs from the old town leads to the fortress, so comfortable footwear is recommended.
A small wooded island in the heart of Parga's harbour, home to an 18th-century Orthodox church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. The island can be reached by a short boat ride, while experienced swimmers often swim to its shore during summer when sea conditions are calm. The island is a symbol of Parga and frequently appears on postcards.
The old town consists of narrow cobblestone streets, stone houses with colorful facades, and small squares climbing toward the Venetian fortress. The houses are clustered on the slope below the fortress, and within the quarter there are local shops and the Church of the Holy Apostles. The quarter is entirely walkable and offers an authentic insight into the local style of construction.
A full-day boat trip takes you to the island of Paxos, known for its olive groves, tranquil seaside villages, and coves with turquoise water.
