Pienza is a historic town in the Val d'Orcia valley, known as one of the most significant examples of Renaissance urbanism in Italy. Pope Pius II transformed it in the 15th century according to the ideals of a perfect city, and today its historic center is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Pienza is also known for the production of pecorino cheese, which is one of the most recognizable local products of the region.
