Everything you need for Syracuse in one place
An island that forms the historic core of Syracuse, connected to the mainland by a short bridge. Within a small area, the Temple of Apollo, baroque palaces, and a cathedral built around a 5th-century BC Doric temple of Athena stand side by side. Narrow streets lead to the Fountain of Arethusa, a natural freshwater spring located right next to the sea.
The Greek Theatre dating from the 5th century BC is one of the largest ancient theatres in the world, carved directly into the slope of the Temenite hill. Within the Neapolis Archaeological Park there are also a Roman amphitheatre, the Altar of Hieron (Altare di Ierone), and the Ear of Dionysius, a cave renowned for its exceptional acoustics.
One of the most significant archaeological museums in Sicily, with collections spanning from prehistory to late antiquity. Particularly notable are the finds from Megara Hyblaea and the sculptures from the Syracusan necropolises. The museum is housed in a modern building next to the Villa Landolina park.
