The traditional core of Elafonissos consists of narrow streets, stone houses, and small squares that reflect the island's fishing past. Walking through the old part of the settlement offers insight into the daily life of the local community and the authentic atmosphere of small Greek islands. Due to its compact size, the historic core can be explored in under an hour and is easily combined with a visit to the harbor and nearby beaches.
Pavlopetri is considered one of the oldest known submerged cities in the world, with a history spanning more than four thousand years. The remains of streets, buildings, and urban layout lie in the shallow sea between Elafonisos and the coast of the Peloponnese, making them visible even with just a mask and snorkel. Due to its exceptional archaeological value, the site is protected, and it represents one of the most significant underwater archaeological sites in Greece.
The highest point of Elafonissos offers a panoramic view of the island, Simos beach, and the coast of the southern Peloponnese. A short hiking trail leads to the viewpoint, and the reward for the ascent is a wide view of the sea and the surrounding islands. Due to its position and open horizon, Profitis Ilias is one of the best spots for photography and watching the sunset on Elafonissos.
