Cranae (Marathonisi) Island

A small island located just off the shore of Githio, connected to the town by a short pedestrian bridge. According to Greek mythology, this is where Paris and Helen spent the night before sailing to Troy, thus beginning one of the most famous stories of the ancient world. The island features the historic tower of the Mavromihalis family, a small museum dedicated to local history, and a lighthouse with panoramic views of the harbor, the Laconian Gulf, and the coastline of the Mani peninsula.
