Ioannina

Ioannina is a historic city on the shores of Lake Pamvotis and one of the most fascinating cultural centers of Epirus. The heart of the city is formed by the Ioannina Castle with the Its Kale citadel, Byzantine and Ottoman heritage, museums, and views over the lake. A short boat ride leads to an inhabited island with monasteries and the story of Ali Pasha, while the center alternates between squares, traditional streets, and waterfront promenades. Ioannina is also an excellent starting point for day trips to ancient Dodona, the mountain villages of Zagori, and the Vikos Gorge.
