Nerja is a coastal town on the eastern part of the Costa del Sol, known for its blend of historic center, viewpoints, and beaches. Its most famous landmark is the Balcón de Europa, a promenade on a rocky promontory overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, while a few kilometers from the center lies the Cueva de Nerja, a cave complex with large chambers, stalactites, and archaeological remains from prehistoric times. The cave system, discovered in 1959, extends over more than four kilometers, of which about one kilometer is open to visitors. The caves contain large halls with stalactites and stalagmites, as well as archaeological findings that testify to human presence as far back as prehistory. In one of the largest halls, Sala del Ballet, concerts and cultural events are held today.
A viewpoint and promenade on a rocky promontory in the center of Nerja, built on the site of a former Moorish fortress. It received its current name after the visit of King Alfonso XII in 1885. From the promenade, there are views of the Mediterranean Sea, the surrounding cliffs, and the town's beaches, making it the central point of interest when visiting Nerja.
The 17th-century church stands next to the Balcón de Europa viewpoint and was built on the site of a former mosque. Its architecture blends Baroque and Mudéjar elements, reflecting the fusion of Christian and Islamic building traditions characteristic of Andalusia.
Organized kayak tours from Nerja run along the cliffs of the Acantilados de Maro–Cerro Gordo Nature Park to coves and sea caves that cannot be reached by car.
