Andalusia by Car in 7 Days — Alhambra, Moorish Heritage and White Villages

The route begins in the capital of Andalusia, leading through the city's most important landmarks. The Royal Alcázar with its Moorish courtyards and gardens, along with the monumental cathedral featuring the Giralda — a former minaret — represent the fusion of Islamic and Christian heritage in Seville. The day continues through the narrow streets of the Santa Cruz quarter and Plaza de España, while the evening can be rounded off with flamenco, the art form for which Andalusia is renowned.

The day begins with a drive to Córdoba, the former capital of the Córdoba Caliphate. The main highlight of the visit is the Mezquita-Catedral, a former grand mosque recognizable by its rows of columns and red-and-white arches, inside which a cathedral now stands. The tour continues through the historic Jewish quarter Judería, with its narrow streets, white houses, and inner courtyards, and concludes at the Roman Bridge over the Guadalquivir.

Arrival in Granada, the last capital of the Nasrid Kingdom on the Iberian Peninsula. The first part of the day is dedicated to exploring the Albaicín, the former Moorish quarter with narrow cobblestone streets and white houses, which together with the Alhambra has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. From the viewpoint of Mirador de San Nicolás, there is a view of the Alhambra and the Sierra Nevada mountain range, while the evening can be spent in the Sacromonte quarter, known for its cave houses and flamenco tradition.

The entire day is dedicated to the Alhambra and the Generalife gardens, the most significant monument of Nasrid architecture in Spain. The visit includes the Nasrid Palaces with richly decorated stuccowork, the Court of the Lions, the Alcazaba fortress, and the Generalife gardens with fountains and pavilions. Exploring the complex requires several hours, and tickets are recommended to be booked in advance due to the limited number of visitors. After the visit, there is plenty of time for a stroll through the center of Granada or a return to the Albaicín.

The drive through the interior of Andalusia leads to Ronda, a historic city perched above the El Tajo gorge. Puente Nuevo connects the old and new parts of the city across the deep gorge, while nearby stands Plaza de Toros, one of the oldest preserved bullfighting arenas in Spain. The tour continues through the streets of the old town and viewpoints overlooking the valley and the surrounding mountain landscape.

The route continues towards Malaga on the Costa del Sol coast, the birthplace of Pablo Picasso. The visit includes the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle, from which there are views over the city and harbour, followed by the historic centre with its Renaissance cathedral and museums dedicated to Picasso. The day ends with a walk along the Muelle Uno promenade, where the historic core naturally merges with the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.

The final day of the route is spent in Nerja, a coastal town on the Costa del Sol. The visit includes the Balcón de Europa, a viewpoint built on the site of a former fortress, as well as the Cuevas de Nerja cave system with its large chambers, stalactites, and prehistoric findings. The rest of the day can be spent on the town's beaches or strolling through the historic center, bringing the journey through Andalusia to a close on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.
