A glacial lake in the Slovenian Alps, surrounded by forested hills and the mountains of the Julian Alps. The lake contains the only natural island in Slovenia, while Bled Castle rises above the shore. The circular walk around the lake is approximately 6 kilometers long and is one of the most popular activities in Bled.
The oldest Slovenian castle, perched on a cliff 130 meters above the lake, with written records dating back to 1004. The castle houses a museum with archaeological findings, a printing workshop, and a winery. The view of the lake and the island from the castle walls is exceptional.
The only natural island in Slovenia, topped by a 17th-century baroque church with the famous wishing bell. By tradition, the groom carries the bride up 99 steps and rings the bell so their wish may be granted. The island is reached by a traditional boat called a pletna.
