Everything you need for Chania in one place
The Venetian harbor is one of the most recognizable places in Chania. It is surrounded by Venetian and Ottoman buildings, and its 16th-century lighthouse has become a symbol of the city.
The Archaeological Museum of Chania holds finds from western Crete spanning from the Neolithic to the Roman period — Minoan artifacts, sculptures, mosaics, and jewelry from sites across the region. Since 2022 it has been housed in a modern building in the Halepa district, having spent decades previously in the former Franciscan monastery of Saint Francis in the old town.
A 17th-century Venetian fortress stands at the entrance to the old harbor. Today it houses the Maritime Museum of Crete, with collections dedicated to seafaring and the history of the island. From the fortress there is a view of the harbor and the lighthouse.
Samaria Gorge is one of the longest in Europe and represents the most famous hiking route in Crete.
