Its present appearance largely dates from the period of Venetian rule, when the fortification was expanded to protect the town and its harbor. Inside the fortress is a collection of historical exhibits that bring the island's rich past to life.
A Roman Catholic cathedral built between the 16th and 17th centuries, located on the main city square in Hvar. It was erected on the site of an earlier church and represents a significant example of Renaissance and Baroque architecture in Dalmatia. The interior is adorned with valuable works of art, and the cathedral houses a collection of ecclesiastical art that bears witness to the rich religious and cultural history of the city.
The largest square on the Adriatic islands and the central hub of social life in Hvar. It is surrounded by significant historic buildings, including St. Stephen's Cathedral, the Arsenal, and the Hvar Loggia. The square dates back to the Middle Ages, is paved with stone, and is a beloved spot for strolling, gathering, and soaking in the atmosphere of the old town.
