Pag is a planned Renaissance town built in the 15th century on the shore of Pag Bay. A regular grid of stone streets runs between the main square, the Rector's Palace, churches, and the remains of the town fortifications. The town is known for Pag lace, traditional salt production, and local specialties made from sheep's milk and meat. Behind the town center stretch salt pans, beaches, and the bare stone landscapes that make the island instantly recognizable.
