Saranda stretches along a wide bay in southern Albania, across from the Greek island of Corfu, and is the main urban center of the Albanian Riviera. Along the waterfront lie a promenade, city beaches, restaurants, and cafes that remain active late into the evening during the summer months. Above the city stands the Lëkurësi Castle with views over the bay, while some of the most important sites in southern Albania are located in the immediate surroundings, including Butrint, the Blue Eye, and the coastline toward Ksamil. Unlike the smaller towns on the riviera, Saranda combines city life, the sea, and good connectivity with the rest of the region, making it a frequent base for exploring southern Albania.
