Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe. The largest museum in Bulgaria, located in the former residence of communist leader Todor Zhivkov in the Boyana suburb. It houses more than 650,000 exhibits, including golden Thracian treasures and Roman artifacts. The museum is easily reached by city bus or taxi.
Boyana Church is a medieval Orthodox church located at the foot of Vitosha Mountain, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is renowned for its frescoes from 1259, which are considered one of the most significant achievements of medieval European painting. To protect the artworks, the number of visitors inside the church is limited.
The most significant Bulgarian monastery from the 10th century and one of the most important Orthodox monasteries in the Balkans, under UNESCO protection.
